I'm not sure if I'm mentally unsound and therefore can't cope with an environment I'm supposed to cope with, or if the environment is cancerous and I need to bounce to save myself and get some autonomy

damn, sounds rough emily. i’m with ryan in preferring to drop notions of what people are “supposed” to do - the practical decision to stay or leave is hard enough already! any interest in elaborating?

Yeah this is the conclusion I'm leaning towards But making your own path gets you a lot of shit from others and a lot of uncertainty. Will elaborate as soon as I find my mum's account and block her so she doesn't see this hahaha brb

damn. i vote for not sacrificing your soul personally! if you leave you can be one of the cool kids like @visakanv

worth pointing out that sacrificing your soul is super super bad for making money, honestly, and that while parents usually mean well they usually have no idea what constraints and opportunities you actually have and are usually giving you advice that’s decades out of date

When you’re younger and all your peers are in university etc it seems like a big deal. But it’s really not, IMO. If you’re moderately intelligent, you can figure out a way to make a living. This is even truer now than it was when I was in your shoes ~10 years ago
