seems like we tend to biologize things in order to trojan horse them into the mainstream e.g. mental health movement said “depression = chemical imbalances” and LGBT advocates said “born this way” eventually we expand the convo to include other layers of the social system
Currently doing this with drugs - they’re medicine. But this method has serious downsides. “Born this way” has lead to pretty terrible biphobia, which was not present before and bad science trying to find a “gay” gene which inevitably does not exist.
We need to convince our culture that drugs are for fun and fun is ok for adults to have. This would also fix mental health problems and the idea you can choose or play with your sexuality and gender too.
