Is it that the mass market can't handle weirdness or that the people who care the most about selling to the mass market can't
Judging by my friends experience trying to get a “raunchy” magazine published for women that had naked men in it - I’d say the latter. Resistance everywhere from printers and distribution even though actual audience loved it

I don't know this was about 10 years ago, but almost all platforms have even stricter (ie, explicit rather than implicit) restrictions on 'adult' content. She found naked women had looser restrictions than naked men, because gender bias. Wouldn't expect platforms to be different
