In fact the lossyness is often a good thing - how many hilarious dinner table times have you had because someone misheard someone else and riffed on it?
yeah there's a great essay by Lewis Thomas about how humanity is built on imperfections, starting with imperfect DNA replication making happy mistakes, and language being vague lending it to multiple meanings, and so on
Ambiguity as a feature, not a bug. But an honest relationship with and good ideas of the boundaries of ambiguity go a long way.
