I'm doing a bunch of reading about emotionally unavailable parents, and a bunch of it really resonates, but a bunch of it also doesn't quite. There's a complexifier in my history that was true for several of my friends too – we had music/theatre/sports etc, & we had the internet
Oh man, my parents could not more perfectly fit a stereotype of “ignore the problem, don’t speak about the problem, randomly explode about some problems, but not others, be unavailable about the problem and afterwards pretend there was no problem”

This is partly why I chose not to have kids. I can probably sort myself out but I’m really not sure I can avoid passing it on.
