This is huge that the Democratic party is fully behind DC statehood and will include it in a bill that likely will pass the House. We've never gotten this far before.https://wapo.st/2FdTylt?tid=ss_tw&utm_term=.1a2e5214ee84 …

Sure this won't pass this year, but this is key step in long game, which now doesn't seem so long at all. In the past, even Democrats were split on this, so it couldn't pass even Democratic-controlled Houses. Now we're on verge of statehood next time Dems have unified control.

And what an appropriate time, when DC is so profoundly affected by a shut-down even as it has no voice in Congress. Partisanship aside, it is a mockery of democratic principles that DC's citizens lack representation in decisions that affect them so much.

PR certainly is a priority to statehood. The lack triage or support for months maybe years show how desperate it is for that country during hurricane aggressive storm seasons.

That's nice, but given Trump is today talking about "national emergency" we need to worry about other things. Consider this:https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/01/presidential-emergency-powers/576418/ …

Because the people of DC have been a distinct political community for 220 years. Why not one damn Dakota?

It only took 225ish years. At this rate we’ll have representation in DC by 2450.
