The Florida Senate is still considering its own version of this legislation that's slightly different.

The Florida House would require repayment of restitution, fines and fees ordered by a judge, even if they were converted to a civil lien. The Florida Senate would require repayment of restitution, but not fines and fees if they were converted to a civil lien. Key difference

This is a great report from 2016 that describes how many states require repayment of legal financial obligations before people can vote again: http://allianceforajustsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Disenfranchised-by-Debt-FINAL-3.8.pdf …

Leave it to Florida to have their people vote, not get the result they want, and then legislate it how they wanted to anyway

Not only FL, Missouri is also trying to quash the fair redistricting vote, as I think Utah also.

To everyone who keeps wondering why it’s undeniably important no one loses their voting rights because they go to prison, here’s a current example. Racist/republican legislatures don’t want people who’ve been to prison ever vote again. Period. That’s always been the plan.

Republicans only want white, male, land/home owners to vote. They have made that VERY clear. This is not what Florida voters voted for. We voted to restore ex-felons voting rights. ACLU needs to challenge this BS in court.

The people of Florida voted by a super-majority (over 60%) to restore the voting rights of ex-convicts. Now the GOP is trying to rig the game & overturn the voters. This is disgusting voter suppression.

Florida is run by Republicans. The people deserve what they have voted for to represent them. It'll only get worse.
