New Jepsen analysis! We talk about etcd's kv operations, watches, and locks. KV ops look strict serializable, and watches deliver all changes in order (with a minor undocumented edge case around revision zero). As usual, distributed locks aren't real:

And yes. It is hard to feel ignored or unheard. Which is why you should, if you are a senior engineer, think of influence as a long term project, built up and cultivated over the course of years. (Just like good technical judgment, to which it is at least nominally related.)

This is a great read and IMO the same analysis is overdue throughout the k8s ecosystem. Here, operational complexity of microservice archs is magnified when outsourced from its devs to platform operators.

I love , pretty enjoy Actions but was quite missing a good story for Golang actions in either linux, OS X or windows. Hence I hacked it around and partially ported the toolkit

Interesting phrase I heard today: "Be sure you disappoint the right people" You can't make everyone happy so instead of framing it as deciding who you want to make happy, frame it as who you are comfortable disappointing.

Remember this the next time you hear somebody assert that is always a slow, protracted affair, requiring many decades. This one is happening at lightning speed.

If I have one main point to make on this whole discussion it is this. Way too many people aren't being honestly told by their managers that their overwork is kinda meh, because telling someone that their efforts are wasted is incredibly hard. But your overwork is probably meh.

IME the hardest part of CI/CD (by far, as in orders of magnitude) is not in tools, but in changing human-related factors (processes, practices, etc.)

If you're wondering what "P-four-nines" means, it's the latency at the 99.99th percentile, meaning only one in 10,000 requests has a worse latency. Why do we measure latency in percentiles? A thread about how how it came to be at Amazon...
