I can imagine my past self seeing this and saying "'significant distress or problems functioning'? that's not me, I'm doing fine" to which I say: just because you've found ways to cope with the problem doesn't mean it's not hurting you

I was doing pretty well for myself pre-transition, living a life where I could mostly ignore gendered expectations, everyone close to me accepted that, I was dating queer women... and I'm STILL so much happier now

I'm not saying you have to transition just because it sounds like it might be nice. I'm just saying: don't let anyone, even yourself, tell you that you're not allowed to, or that you don't deserve it.

Yes, I mean I see the appeal in approaching trans politics essentially as a disability politics – it has certainly allowed some advances. But I do believe it isn’t enough, and isn’t quite accurate. I personally would rather see see something akin to autonomy politics, where the—

goal is – instead of seeking “treatment” – seeking a full acknowledgement of our subjective powers. That is, to be acknowledged as capable to make decisions about our own bodies, about how we interpret our bodies and experience them, and about how we self-determine our being. In—

other words, I would the most benefit coming out of a theory and practice that fights for the centrality of self-identity and self-determination – our autonomy. It is compatible with both binary and non-binary trans experiences (places no higher value on either approach—

to identity), and therefore allows for a multiplicity of “trans worlds” as it were to co-exist, each of us with our specific needs/goals, but with essentially the same overarching framework of understanding

Pretty much yes to all of those, some to a greater degree then others.
