EVERY SINGLE ONE of the reviews that got taken down are legitimate 5-star reviews from real people. @Yelp made sure to pin my mom's ONE bad review to the top so her star score stays low. my parents work harder than anyone and deserve better than this immoral bullshit

i know i don't have clout here but i thought maybe if i took it to a public forum and people saw what yelp was doing, they would fix it. i feel gross asking but please consider retweeting!! my parents are small business owners that yelp is crushing!!!

I also run a small business, Yelp is definitely super shady. The best thing I’ve found is to ignore their calls/emails entirely. Also, encourage clients/customers to leave reviews instead on Google/Facebook/TripAdvisor.
-
yeah they've been working on their google pages. it's frustrating because unless you are or know a business owner, you have no idea this is happening!! i used to rely on yelp heavily when looking for new establishments, and i know that there are many still doing the same!!
-
There’s a documentary that’s coming out ... eventually called “Billion Dollar Bully” about Yelp and their shadiness. Once they get a some good reviews on google, see if they will advertise there. That will also help since their site and their 5 star reviews will come up together.
-
they have a few good google reviews, but you just know that they're losing business because of yelp /: they were on the first page and now they're on the fifth or sixth. they're struggling to pay the rent for both businesses and really can't afford to lose any clients
-
If I lived in that city, I would definitely patronize your parents' businesses! Too bad I'm in IL :(
-
thank you so much regardless - i will pass along the love to them!!

i used to dev for yelp and fwiw, i never saw anything to suggest sales folks even have the ability to do this meanwhile there have been court cases and analyses and nothing's ever come of them
-
possible explanation is selection bias: if the filter acts in a way that's effectively random to an observer, then whether it hits you after you get a call is a coin flip. if it happens, you feel targeted. if it doesn't, you forget about it entirely
-
they called twenty four times and their reviews were removed twenty four times. they never had any others removed
-
i don't know much about how sales are done but why would they keep calling after getting a dozen no's? also the second business is still five stars? if this is a racket it's not a very good one
-
my dad hasn't received reviews with less than 5 stars because it's a new business. ask yelp, not me. my mom received constant calls from the same woman. she would block the number and receive a call from a different number FROM THE SAME WOMAN
-
uhh yikes. this is starting to sound like a scam? do they have any way to know for sure that it was actually yelp calling?

Hi
@spoonletter, I’ve been following your thread and get your frustration. I understand why it might feel that way, but there’s no connection between ratings or reviews and buying advertising. The recommendation software runs continuously, so the results can change day-to-day. -
bullshit. this exact practice happens to countless other small business owners. those who caved and paid quickly got their reviews back. every time you called, two days later another review got taken down like CLOCKWORK. are you seriously sticking with your "coincidence" story?
-
you blocked me on facebook when I called you out, but the reason why your reviews are not recommended is because you're soliciting reviews from friends and family.pic.twitter.com/DZ7f57BI6q
-
i replied explaining how they are not soliciting reviews. there are also thousands of other unaffiliated reviews being taken down from thousands of other business owners because they will not pay. what about all of those?
