It is illegal for any private company to levy a fine without a conviction in a court of law (That's the old fashioned kind with a jury)

Do not pay fines from private companies, it is literally illegal.
My theory is that all power gravitates towards "mafiaism", i.e. It demands more for giving less until it takes everything and gives nothing.
The existential danger we are in now is that this mindset has been globalised & its main opponent, democracy, is being neutered.
