New addition to our household (day 5). They make great head saccades. Suggestions for non-invasive vision science experiments, anyone? I suggested monocular deprivation, but that didn't fly with the kids...

How does trial history affect motion perception and anticipatory pursuit? What's the cause of their dissociatioin? Come to discuss with me at my poster! Presentation 226.12, poster board L39 on Sunday, October 20, 2019, 1:00 PM-5:00 PM.

Life is good in the with our Dual-Purkinje image eye tracker back up and running. Now we just have to find (human) subjects with perfect vision, no droopy eyelids, curled up eyelashes, huge pupils, and who are willing to use a bite bar. Shouldn't be hard at all!

New paper out in IEEE Trans Vis Comp Graph with : Using a simulated baseball hitting task in a VR headset we show that hitting errors can be reduced by calibrating the system (adjusting monocular depth cues) to each user.

So... are you saying that as long as we work 16 hrs a day we're fine? 10 years into being faculty I still haven't figured out how to balance work, family, and other commitments despite a really well-organized to-do list... Maybe this is a lifelong process.

Happy to share that our Wall Solutions Grant to develop a portable tool for motion sensitivity testing in the elderly was renewed by one more year. I think vision scientists have an obligation to use their knowledge to improve clinical testing and diagnosis.

We acknowledge the lack of female representation in this year’s trainee award recipients. This award is self-nominated, and only 9% of applicants were female. We endeavour to raise awareness about our funding opportunities in an effort to encourage more researchers to apply.

Thank you Liisa! I was about to post along the same lines. Clearly VCHRI / UBC need to do a better job encouraging women to apply. This is shocking.
