As I've said, the lies Mike Solan has told in the year since his election has made it clear he is not qualified to be negotiating the new police contract with our city. This is just one example, out of so many. He should not just resign from the union, but from the department.

NEW: Former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best and former city attorney Scott Lindsay among those calling for @SPOG1952 president Mike Solan to resign after he blames BLM for riot in DC and breaching of security at gov's mansion.

I'm going to do a quick thread of Mike Solan's most egregious lies. These are just the ones we know of, there are many more suspected. The first on the list was his obscene claim that Charleena Lyles was the victim of "suicide by cop".
Quote Tweet
This is just too much. Mike Solan, the president of the Seattle Police officer's union, gave an interview to Omari Salisbury today.... and claimed the murder of Charleena Lyles (the pregnant black woman killed in front of her children) was actually "suicide by cop."

He was caught committing voter fraud over the course of several years.
Quote Tweet
It's also worth mentioning again, since he routinely refers to protesters as "criminals", it was just revealed that Mike Solan has likely committed voter fraud by registering to vote using his precinct address. In other words, he is a criminal. southseattleemerald.com/2020/07/20/som

He went on local rightwing media to invite President Trump to send in the military to Seattle, repeating many of the same lies about protesters propagated by the Seattle Police Dept.
Quote Tweet
Wow. The president of the Seattle Police officers' union is now using rightwing media to publicly call for federal intervention in Seattle, specifically citing the "success" they have had in Portland. Expect to see these calls amplified by rightwingers over the coming days.

He frequently misrepresented a petition he was circulating, going on Fox News and other national outlets attempting to get a national audience to sign on against defunding our local police department.
Quote Tweet
The Seattle Police officer's union has been touting this enormous response to their silly petition trying to stop us from defunding them. Turns out those signatures came from Mike Solan's visit to Fox News, where he begged their viewership to sign on. 😂 youtube.com/watch?v=ovhIPE

He released (and likely produced) this video in early June, with multiple dubious and unsubstantiated claims meant to justify the nightly brutal attacks on protesters.
Quote Tweet
Yesterday I posted a thread about SPD's union, and their president. They released this video in response to the protests...poorly produced propaganda, with a number of unsubstantiated claims, including an officer almost losing an eye after being hit with a cinder block. (part 1)

He released this letter filled with fictitious claims, including the notorious "candle" incident, in which SPD claimed a broken candle was an incendiary device.
Quote Tweet
Oh look, the president of the Seattle Police officers union just published a letter filled with lies to justify the widespread and well-documented violence committed by the officers at the East Precinct. The "exploded" item he's referring to? It was confirmed to be a *candle*.

In one of the ugliest moments of last year, he went on Fox News to falsely claim police had not been allowed access to a shooting victim. In fact, video evidence showed that police hadn't even shown up on scene until after the victim had been transported.
Quote Tweet
The truth is, correcting this lie is virtually impossible at this point. Their union president went on national Fox News just hours after it had happened, they pushed out this false report to media, and everyone's mind has already been made up. youtube.com/watch?v=5yY-Sg

He sent out an email to officers telling them to ignore direct orders.
Quote Tweet
Welp, there you have it, just as we've suspected. The Seattle Police officers union allegedly sent out an email to its members encouraging them to refuse direct orders. They've been doing this for years, of course, but it's really something to see they're codifying it in writing.

When a protest showed up outside the union headquarters, he gloated about blasting country music as dozens of officers violently brutalized the crowd, which included children doing chalk art. It appeared the union coordinated the police attack.
Quote Tweet
Once again, the Seattle Police Department has outdone themselves, unleashing a violent, unprovoked attack on a group of protesters outside their union headquarters. Their campaign of terror continued late into the night, resulting in organizers being hospitalized and arrested.

Like I said, this is the *short list* of lies told by this man... a person responsible, not just for negotiating the city's police contract, but also a sworn officer who is responsible for protecting and serving the people of this city. His words and actions are disqualifying.

Mike Solan must resign. The union, which overwhelmingly elected him, must be broken up, and the city should start fresh with a new contract not brokered by people who hold the people of this city with such blatant contempt.

(There are also plenty of suspicions that he was involved in the abandoning of the East Precinct, as well as the subsequent hoax in which SPD used their radios to fake an armed white-supremacist march coming to attack protesters)
