    One business model I’m increasingly interested in: assuming risk for outcomes. We’ve been selling software and asking customers to trust that the increased productivity gains are worth the price. If you’re sure, you should assume the risk and get paid for it.

    It wasn't easy to find co-investors when we led the A despite having scrappy founders + one of the rare B2B businesses with network effects. Goes to show what's hot early on has so little correlation to what actually succeeds.

    Bold prediction that there might not be another major paradigm shift in computing. I suspect there might be non-technical reasons for another shift. For example, privacy and security fears might create a resurgence of local compute/storage. What else?

    Strange that this needs to be said. The anti-venture capital crowd might have genuine grievances, but not everyone can bootstrap and they’re not proposing any alternatives. So we will quietly do our version of minority/non-control investments and hope that becomes the norm.

    There’s nothing wrong with building a small, self-sustaining, bootstrapped company. But it’s not morally superior either. Lambda School couldn’t have 1/1000th the impact we can of what we plan to if were small and bootstrapped. (1/n)
