That feeling when you are a long time software guy, assuming computers are binary at the core (+ and - voltage), learning about the "tri state" of logic circuits. (it's when a circuit is disconnected aka high impedance)

Good news! You can forget about it again. It's a technique that was clever in the 90s, but it's regarded as dangerous these days and hard to validate. I believe it's usually emulated with conventional binary latches these days.

When we dusted off the P54C to use as Larrabee's core, there was an initial multi-week effort to convert all the tri-state logic to conventional binary because the fab said "we don't do that any more".
