By building Lambda as they have, AWS effectively stamped a big "DEPRECATED" on containers. People are freaking out accordingly. They should be.

Those of us doing
#serverless in production, we don't hate containers. We just don't care. They don't matter to us anymore.Show this thread -
BTW I'm giving a brand new talk on all of this on March 22nd in NYChttps://www.meetup.com/Serverless-NYC/events/247709799/ …

You're just picking fights, I disagree. I *love* the serverless model but you need shared state sometimes. Even if we had 10 competing api gateways we'd still have the same issues.
-
The tweet you replied to is me *explicitly* saying I decided not to pick a fight
Also serverless !== stateless. It looks that way right now because all the serverless solutions for state kinda suck. It will get better. -
Ha! fair enough =) What do you think we'll see?

-
Dynamo and DAX tho! Does everything ('cept blobstore) these do but better imo
-
I think we'll just have to disagree about "better". I want to love Dynamo but still find it to be such a PITA. To be fair I haven't used it much since it got import/export. Also, sad DAX isn't serverless :(
-
I don't think we have to. Dynamo is available. Aurora isn't. That is WAY better!

I feel you on this.

- I understand the desire, but view the existing (FaaS) constraints as good practices & opening up vendor optimizations.
Less is more.

I regret having to unfollow certain people that have proven to be particularly toxic. It's frustrating, watching their tweets be celebrated.

Really just one person, but I don't want to call him out by name.

I think containers are a transitional technology that will be progressively replaced by serverless. They still have some niche use cases, especially when dealing with legacy applications.

At this point, both containers and serverless have their places in the world. It's too early to know for sure where are we going from here, and I'm sure both kool-aids are equally tasty.
