I think people will onboard deploying code and then mature into containers. Code is lighter-weight with many 10s of functions

Other factor with BYO container is the ownership over the security of the runtime, which is a maintenance burden deploying code doesn't have

i struggle with this because generally folks want to run a small function and hit "deploy" and not deal with owning the runtime and its bits

and if you look at most of the best Lambda frameworks out there (waves @ Matt) containers would give you almost nothing you don't have today
