I solved this problem in advance by denying the reality of instagram and not having an instagram account. So far, it's working perfectly.

I actually kind of like it. Imagine if Twitter was ephemeral media only and replies were private by default. It has led me to rekindle a few connections.
-
Yeah, I sort of wish that twitter, for example, was not addressable past a certain point (like, old tweet IDs stop working for anyone but author after a week or something, maybe unless specially shared as permanent) so that the public conversation was not then reified by default.
-
We've a tendency to treat the fossilized conversation in here as though it were the same as folks' considered and intentionally published more permanent expression.
-
I've seen some tools that delete old tweets, optionally only if they haven't been interacted with. Kinda like that.
-
Tempted to spin that up myself. Its hard because I do have a few old tweets that still get some mileage. I guess I could make a whitelist.

A simple and friendly, if imperfect, rule could be: if it is in a thread that others have made constructive use of beyond simply amplifying (replies, quotes with comment) leave it alone to keep that record intact. Otherwise, delete at <age limit>
