Dude, don't blame him, blame who killed them.

I'm not absolving Sylvanas for what she did, simply that the Desolate Council might have had a better chance of getting what they originally wanted if not for Anduin's idea.

Semantics. The bottom line is you have one leader trying to reach out and make peace and co-exist and you have another who simply isn't interested in peace or co-existence . Those are the motivations, the rest are details.

I think Sylvanas was poorly written in this book. The eccentricity brought out of her were great, but her core motivations stay ultimately confusing or just unknown. We’d like to say her goal is to serve her people over all else. But I mean... we know what happened to that.

Nah. Sylvanas displays characteristics of an abusive spouse. She gaslights the Forsaken by telling them no one else will have them or love them and then kills them when they experience the opposite. Desolate Council was dead regardless.
-
Sylvanas' first try at joining the Alliance left an obvious and lasting impression. I agree, the Desolate Council would have been dead, but depending on how they handled it, could have on on their own terms and Forsaken would be a "second chance" and not "prison of undeath" org

That's kind of the point though, isn't it? Anduin is young, he's 18. He is a naive King that has so much to learn. So much that his father didn't get a chance to teach him and that Genn can only attempt to help with. Anduin is going to make mistakes this expac. It's only natural.

Makes me wonder, because I always had the impression the Horde Warchief always acted unilaterally while the Alliance was more unified (Although yes this was strictly a UC/SW confrontation)

My biggest gripe is he being ignorant of Forsaken culture. Pushing to reconnect families is like pushing for the Forsaken to resist their own identity. No question it's noble, but also oppressive in its own way
