China just showed its hypersonic-BGV in a vid on 08 Oct. Probably a test design model, but AFAIK this is first pics of an actual object 1/pic.twitter.com/EXIMHkXTEA

Vid is about JF-12 hypersonic testing tunnel. Narrator never explicitly says its HBGV. Resembles mock-ups of WU-14. 2/

First impression - lot more sharp edges then mockup, reminds me of @james_acton32 piece in Sci&Sec about tradeoff between L/D and heat

Testing criteria of JF12 tunnel (transl. from vid): speed Mach 5-10; nozzle(?)/tunnel (喷管) diameter 2.5m; max test time: 100milisecs

A lot of difference between a wind tunnel evaluation and an operating hypersonic air frame. Several years between the wind tunnel and an operational missile. A very expensive weapon to use.

when the West actually makes new weapons or makes large gains towards perfecting those weapons, maybe you'll see a "leaked" test-ready prototype... But never a flimsy wind-tunnel tester... First US prototype's of GlideB&ScramJ in 90's but soviets were done so we didnt need them.
