Be mindful when talking about chosen families. Not all queer + trans folks have that, or a blood family.

Thank you. I feel this a lot, especially from constant alienation by cis queers in my community.

Im not the OP. For me, its more complex than either preference or lack of opportuity wrt not having chosen family &/or family of origin.

The framework of your question assumes things abt family & what shapes choices wrt family. It leaves out things like exclusion & abuse, frex
-
My experience of both kinds of family is deeply shaped by those things. Makes it difficult to answer your question beyond: its complicated.

I think it depends on the kind of answer you want to make room for. If you ask is that because of X or Y, there's no room for other things.
-
& often, in my experience, if you do not make room for things you had not considered with an open ended query, you don't hear about them.

Makes sense. I can tell you more about my own sense of things that contribute to folks not having chosen families, if you want.

TW abuse So in my experience intimate partner violence isolates people, estranges them from close ties, & creates fractures in communities.
-
TW abuse Makes it hard to sustain queer chosen families that exist. & many queer chosen families are built w/exes, abuse disrupts that too.
