We’re so inured to images of collapsing ice sheets and sad polar bears and 2050 projections. That stuff is paralysing. But this piece of journalism makes it deeply personal. It compares the seasons of your childhood to that of a six year old now and that of a baby born today.

Given I have a seven year old and a 6 month old, it made me cry. A lot. But it also gave a Plan B scenario, if we still act. Thus, slightly less paralysing. Of course, those of us with fires on their doorstep right now don’t need a clever online tool to play out scenarios.

But this kind of journalism reminds the rest of us to stay angry and stay vigilant. It also makes me punch the air for the media, and the ABC, and for universities, who are so bloody up against it, but still manage to make work like this, with creative collaborations like these.
