You’re not only closer to homelessness than being a billionaire. You’re closer to homelessness than to buying any home in many major cities. You’re closer to homelessness than being able to ever actually retire. When you see it that way, the crisis is impossible to ignore.

When you criticize your body (it’s shape, size, function) you’re denying how hard it’s fought to survive. Instead of hating your body, hate what it experienced. You must respect it for hosting pain in a world that uses bodies to make money & blames those who don’t adapt well.

Last time a doctor got annoyed at my google list I told her that it costs $50 copay to spend a max of 10 minutes talking to someone who hasn’t glanced at my file before entering the room

Doctors: "Don't Google your symptoms." Doctors: "Never heard of anyone feeling like that ever before. Not a thing. Lose weight." Google: "Here are 85,000 peer-reviewed studies on exactly what you're experiencing. Here's the treatment protocol."

I was almost one of those in the 36% a few years ago. See the thread, and see how disabled people are so easily overlooked...

36% of pedestrian deaths by car are wheelchair users. if just “probably including those” with abled pedestrians and not doing any further inclusive design was good enough, do you really think that number would be so high?

It’s intriguing how most people don’t care about infertility, impotence, lung disease, diabetes, pain, stroke, blood clots, heart attacks, cognitive impairment and death. And quite literally prefer these for both self and others to masking, testing and isolating if positive.

I can’t help but think of the notion of the frictionless society: one where as many human interactions as possible are replaced with screens and apps. Is eradicating the human in service of the futures and business models of tech companies really what’s best for human society?

I’m cropping these for privacy reasons/because I’m not trying to call out any one individual. These are all Lensa portraits where the mangled remains of an artist’s signature is still visible. That’s the remains of the signature of one of the multiple artists it stole from. A 🧵

Seeing a Lensa portrait where what was clearly once an artist’s signature is visible in the bottom right and people are still trying to argue it isn’t theft. 🙃

Then they're like... what's wrong with you. Why are you getting upset and frustrated. You're overreacting! And it's like you are shaming me for something I have no control over and that I struggle with and potentially denying me meds because I have an impairment.

The isolation that comes from healing is not only from a lack of support, but the toxic messages that tell survivors they are at fault for not showing up differently in the world or adapting better. The most authentic, giving, aware people I know are survivors looking for answers

When someone complains about racism and you respond with something about "black on black crime," that's a known racist dogwhistle. When I complain about antisemitism and you respond with "but mental health," I'm sorry, but that's an antisemitic cover for antisemitism. Cut it out.

Imagine: You’re in your mid-30s, doing mid-30s things. One day, you get sick. You almost die, & it doesn’t go away. You’re now disabled. Other people report dying & becoming disabled by the same illness, while still others accuse the sick of lying. It’s chaos for a time.

all of the funniest and most brilliant people on here will continue to be brilliant on other platforms; i'm not worried about that and about them obviously this place is a lifeline for the marginalized and a game-changing tool for community organizers and independent journalists

Does you have an old cellphone you aren't using that I could have/buy? My neoropathy is pretty bad so I kept dropping my old iphone and it finally died so I've got to get something else now... I'm not really fussed what it is, just like it to work
