Why in the world should one feel bad, even if one is wrong? It's not some moral/prescriptive issue. One is fully entitled to be wrong in any descriptive thesis - and NOT feel bad for it. That was the very point of Galileo's trial and separation of science from natural theology.

And I guess there were ppl telling Schrodinger back in 1940s that if he thought his degree and Nobel prize allowed him to ask "What is Life?" from the first principles, he was wrong and he had to (some yelling) STOP DOING THAT!
