Either the new Off-Facebook activity tool isn't working, or and anti-tracking is doing its job...

My colleague appeared on the latest edition of the podcast. Great insight into why at Cliqz we build on and why privacy is at our core:

Wrong headline: Bing really does not loose out to DuckDuckGo here. Bing powers DDG and gets a revenue share without having to buy the users. (via )

A lot of 'self'-content lately, but today is the last day! Do you want to know why Google is the only search engine everybody knows of? They are the best, no question here, but that's not the reason. Here is why:

I'm really liking the tech blog-posts so far, and in their latest they're not taking any prisoners either: - "Google should be forbidden from paying for pre-installation or default installation at all steps of the value chain."

If you work on a competitor to Google’s search, you will eventually hear that “you only need to build a better search engine and you would capture signicant market share”. Wouldn’t users immediately switch?

There are many ways in which the user agent (aka browser), can protect users on the Web. Today we show how we designed and implemented our real-time, privacy-fist anti-phishing system, to prevent attacks on our users:

From the article. "For search: Startpage and DDG" (aggregators which use Google and Bing). "For browsing: Firefox" (sponsored by Google on it's totality). Had to stop there. But yes, spot on quitting Google🤦‍♂️

Really nice write up by team on the nuances between collecting data in a privacy-preserving way versus offering a "privacy-aware" service. Essentially, if data isn't collected with privacy in mind, can you actually offer privacy? (hint: no.)

More and more people take for granted, but there is more than meets the eye, and only few understand the inner workings or dynamics. Not all blockers are the same, either. So, today we give a deep dive in this topic:

I’m disappointed to see signing this. As a non-US based author who publishes with, and peer reviews for, ACM, since when has my work been “valuable American intellectual property”? How is locking up publicly funded results behind a paywall beneficial to society?

When it comes to browsers, being 'open source' is not enough. We forked because openness is a core value, which percolates deeply in all their tech decisions. This allowed us to extend Firefox like no other browser:
