So after 35 minutes I got: * (backstory) some people were bickering * 200 characters isn't enough for a civil conversation * lack of communication is harmful * let's not be violent, let's not be bullies * let's be tolerant, listen, and communicate What's wrong?

The problem is it greatly downplays John's tweets which were angry, racist, and sexist. Then goes on to call for civility from those John attacked. Saying they shouldn't be angry and calling them uncivil, which is the very definition of tone policing.

(1/3) Chuck is, by profession, a journalist. It's how he pays the bills. In the video he starts off with "a lot of stuff has been deleted, this is hard to follow, I don't know the full story, I want to open a conversation". Journalism is about gathering information FIRST.

(2/3) It sounds like you're parroting what others have said. I watched the whole video last night. Not once did Chuck say how people should *feel*. He did offer some suggestions as to how to *act* - which apply equally well to all involved, and he definitely calls out John.

(3/3) John's a jerk. He has no trouble admitting to that. He doesn't delete his tweets to cover his tracks or to make people look bad. So... where is this racist or sexist material? Everyone's calling him a racist... but what did he say? No one will link to ANYTHING he said!!1

So you've found someone claiming that someone else claimed that John was a jerk, but being a jerk doesn't make him racist or sexist. That's the same thing I just said. This was a twitter feed, not a private communication. Where is the link to something racist/sexist John said?

Go find it yourself, those are direct quotes from his tweets and if you don't find those comments sexist or racist then there is really no point in continuing this.

Funny how I was able to literally go look at his timeline, read the tweets, specifically quote them, and somehow dudes want to defend him like they are incapable of going and reading those same tweets. I thought there was a misunderstanding about which parts were racist/sexist.

AJ, real journalism involves gathering facts *before* releasing lengthy videos on a subject. His POV contributed nothing new or insightful and only served to cause more controversy (harm) to those John abused. In other words, not journalism.https://twitter.com/solderjs/status/1192475977718235137?s=21 …

Di you even watch the video? He only briefly skimmed on the backstory, basically saying "there's something going on, some people are upset, I want to find out more". The whole point of the video was "I think, in general, we should try to understand one another".
