"Twitter, Diversity and Being Nice"https://youtu.be/GXlckshcJwk
So after 35 minutes I got: * (backstory) some people were bickering * 200 characters isn't enough for a civil conversation * lack of communication is harmful * let's not be violent, let's not be bullies * let's be tolerant, listen, and communicate What's wrong?
The problem is it greatly downplays John's tweets which were angry, racist, and sexist. Then goes on to call for civility from those John attacked. Saying they shouldn't be angry and calling them uncivil, which is the very definition of tone policing.
(1/3) Chuck is, by profession, a journalist. It's how he pays the bills. In the video he starts off with "a lot of stuff has been deleted, this is hard to follow, I don't know the full story, I want to open a conversation". Journalism is about gathering information FIRST.
(2/3) It sounds like you're parroting what others have said. I watched the whole video last night. Not once did Chuck say how people should *feel*. He did offer some suggestions as to how to *act* - which apply equally well to all involved, and he definitely calls out John.
None of the replies to John were in any way showcasing anger. They are all still there for you to go look at but you'd rather defend from afar. The only one ACTING poorly was John which you admitted yourself.
