I was fortunate to meet him at a conference at @UofSCHistory conference in the mid-1990s organized by Grace McFadden. He was one of several Civil Rights heroes who told their stories--an amazing experience for all who attended.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of a national treasure. I'm 4ever grateful to have learned from one who lived it and made change happen. We need more like Chuck, especially today. May we live up to your standards and make you proud, Chuck. You will always be an inspiration!
