Yeah he's a firm gentleman, but also a gentleman, and *kind*. He often in the old stories had more empathy to spare than the rest of his fictional contemporaries.

1. OH my GOD 2. Your reading is correct. Also, a huge amount of his success comes from listening to and allying with groups that were just not viewed as people by the upper-class twits hiring Holmes to solve their problems.

I really don't think they've read any of the stories. They're clinging to the cash cow of the IP with tooth and claw and ... I really hate them. I've had to study some of their lawsuits and I really, really hate them.
