Tri-Council (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR) carried out public consultations around their Research Data Management Policy. Great summary of the findings here: It would be see stronger language around data sharing and defining data itself, but all very encouraging.

Was searching for new reviews of my recent book (gotta keep an impact file, y’know 🤷‍♂️) – and floored to see this. An event inspired by my recent book History in the Age of Abundance.

Interesting, but the argument steps past a key issue. Archives may be “overwhelmingly paper” now but today’s evidence is “born digital.” Records/data won’t survive if records creators do not protect them from the start.

Always look up if you're lucky enough to get to an temple like Medinet Habu (pictured) - proof that these structures were once a riot of colour and not the mostly beige expanses we encounter today

Neil Peart was a Canadian icon and his loss is devastating. His is a story of nerdy kid from St. Catherines who, through hard work, became one of the greatest drummers to ever live, and a prolific writer of some of the best lyrics to ever be put to music. A farewell to kings.

Make that like two thousand plus! On the bright side, I think almost every historian on Twitter has now engaged with my work (or, at least, have engaged with a tweet about a tweet about a tweet about an AHA slide deck 😅). I’ve been taking lots of notes for my article, btw!

Great question! While we don’t yet have a formal process in place to collect podcasts, we have collected some over the past year through our Web Archiving Program. The Web Archiving team would be happy to discuss – you can reach them at bac.archivesweb-webarchives.lac@canada.ca

Eye-opening survey by reveals the changing practice of historians: Over 90% now use research trips to take photos of archival documents that they will examine when they get home; on average, they take 1,000 photos; 40% take over 2,000 photos.

I’m going to shamelessly promote ‘Failing Gloriously’ on the tag. Cause it’s about digital archaeology, amongst other things. A minor theme, to be sure, but hey.

Greta, thank you for inspiring young people around the world and for pushing everyone to do more — including, and especially, politicians. This coming decade is incredibly important and I know that, thanks to young leaders like yourself, we have good reasons to be optimistic.
