If you're looking to get into the novels and read them all with a cohesive story, yep, start at Last Guardian. If you want the BEST novels, either Arthas or War Crimes - imo. 1/2
That said, if your goal is to *get* the lore, Chronicle vol 1 is your best bet. Some of the early novel stuff has since been retconned, something I didn't fully appreciate til Gin explained it on MGP.
