(1/2) I'm going to get real for a min. I say this fully knowing that it's a confidence issue. The reason I don't stream more often is that the first thing I do when I get home from work is take off the makeup. Quickest way for me to unwind & relax. Especially now due to masks.

By the time dinner is done and I sit down to game, I look like shit. Splotchy, shiny, and tired. Putting makeup back on in order to "look pretty" enough to stream is the last thing I want to do. (If I'm guesting on a show that's a different story.) Ladies, how do you do it??

There's a school of thought that says you should be able to just stream au naturel on the basis that any viewer shallow enough to judge isn't a viewer you want. That said, this stuff is just harder for women generally, because societal expectations are still completely whack.

The fact that female streamers have these worries while the majority of male ones can just roll out of bed and get no negativity for it is sad. Time zones mean I won't be around much when you do stream, but you have my support and admiration with or without makeup.

Logically speaking, that school of thought is how it should be. Part of it honestly is just a fear of the toxicity since we hear so many of those stories.

Absolutely. It feels like the WoW community in general is getting better at that sort of thing, but Twitch is still Twitch. Plus theres the live element of streaming. I imagine going from recording a show you can edit, with no camera, to DOING IT LIVE on camera is quite a jump.

It is. Thankfully I've had a chance to guest on shows that do it live on camera so that does help. The community is getting better in many ways. I think I just get too lost in my head when I think about the "what ifs".

What's quite nice is that as a content creator, you get to build the community you want to see. Honestly, looking at the Friday Question threads gives a good idea of the kind of people following your content, and they're mostly the kind who would just want you to be comfortable.
