“The way things are” isn’t always the way they have to be. So much misery in this world is unnecessary. What can you do today to change that?

Dear , if IS a leading cause of disability, why do we not have adequate research funding to support treatment innovation, individualized medicine, and eventually a cure???!

Today is . Many of us have been affected in some way by this terrible disease. Today is a day to recommit ourselves to eradicating cancer anywhere it occurs.

How bright will be when it blows up? Moon-ish brighness for 3+ months, seen during the daytime for about a year, brighter than the star now for ~2 years, naked eye visible for ~3 years. Credit: grad students Jared Goldberg and Evan Bauer using MESA. 1/

The body of evidence linking head trauma to a type of dementia known as C.T.E. is now damning. And yet the exact mechanisms through which repeated blows to the head result, decades later, in neurological symptoms remain unknown.

Seems like as good a time as any to get a bit more explicit about this: Elizabeth Warren is the best choice for president in my lifetime, and I hope you’ll consider voting for her.

This is the story many ppl w/ disability live every day. “But you don’t look sick!” or “you’re such an inspiration!” are no substitute for a world that doesn’t shove us into a .

You tried to do all the right things, but every “right thing” at a given point produced another bad thing to deal with, b/c ableism says shame on you for not being able to exist the way the rest of us do. 17/

And you may not be fully unable to work. There’s a lot of space between “can do everything” and “can’t do anything.” But you can’t get a job, or one that pays for your survival in a body that costs more. 16/

If things go really bad, ppl assume you can “get disability,” b/c everyone swears they know That Guy who got it even though he plays golf all the time. You can’t get it. If you can, it’ll take years. You don’t have years. 15/

Ableism permeates it all. You try to be brave & not complain. But it doesn’t get better. Folks start to lose patience w/ you. You aren’t getting better & they can’t understand. You try harder—& exhaust yourself physically, emotionally, financially, socially. 14/

It’s easy to find yourself failed out of school, out of a job, alone. You probably made the best okay you could at each step w/ the cards you were dealt, but the game had changed & nobody told you. 12/

These stressors build up in your life. You don’t get to escape them. But some people will think you’re not trying hard enough. 10/

Some make you stupid. Some make you hurt more. Some make you gain or lose lots of weight (costing you $ every time you need a new wardrobe). Sleep a lot or not at all. Can you drive safely? Remember things at work or school? 9/

If your condition doesn’t have an easy fix, you spend more time/$ trying new treatments. Not all are covered by insurance. Then there are side effects. 8/

People drop out of your life. If you need help with something, you pay for it. You shop only where you can run in and out quickly. Rely on packaged food. Don’t get that promotion. 7/
