Hundreds of thousands of Americans live in housing that is at serious risk of flooding -- and sponsored by the government. I talked to 2 mothers in Houston about why they are suing to get out:

“You know what has surprised me?” Obama said at one of their lunches. “How we have become such good friends.” “Surprised *you*?” Biden joked. A fascinating & intimate look inside this very human presidential/VP relationship. By

Eva Vazquez was still crying hard when she got to work. The store security guard saw her, still crying, and asked what happened. “I said, ‘Do you really want to know? My son got into Harvard.’ And the customers started clapping.”

Side notes from reporting this story: Apparently Legos is technically not the plural of Lego 🤯 Thank you to my editor for saving me from myself. And, in even more startling news... The Berenstein Bears is purportedly spelled BerenSTAIN. With an A. I am SHOOK.

There is so much wonderful technology today. But here is an anecdote that helps explain why Braille literacy is startlingly low. As one advocate told me: “Audio can give you information, but it can’t give you literacy.”

Good morning! This week, ⁦⁩ announced it is creating Braille bricks. And that could be a huge deal for literacy. Did you know that⁩ as little as 10% of blind children learn Braille?

Kudos to for taking on this issue and for elevating these voices. And even bigger kudos to the students featured. It takes guts to be vulnerable about money, especially on a campus like Notre Dame.

Actually I may have been in an even LOWER percentile because I was looking at outdated numbers. Point being: getting into college is hard. Test scores do not predict success. But legacy students, who are often financially well off, have so many advantages.

PLUS I went to a little bit of tutoring (which is another example of the resources I had as a legacy that others might not). It actually didn’t help my math scores at all (spoiler alert: I became a journalist) but it probably helped my essay.

FWIW, idk if I would have gotten in if I wasn’t technically a “legacy.” I was an excellent student but my test scores were slightly below the median for my class. And I def wouldn’t get in today because test scores have sky rocketed and these kids are crazy smart freaks!

“I want [high-income families] to realize that they’ve been benefiting from a system that was designed to benefit people like them, [and] ... mostly still benefits them,” one senior said. low-income students reflect on their experience.

“More qualified” bc they have resources, connections etc. I benefited from legacy admissions since my stepdad is an alum. But how can Notre Dame bring in more diverse & first gen students when a HUGE chunk of each class brings more of the same? There is a numbers problem here.

“I don’t know why it took you so long to call her,” a host of ABC's The View told Biden. “I wish it had happened earlier.” His explanation: "Since I had publicly apologized for the way she was treated, I didn’t want to, quote, invade her space."
