This isn't one of my big domains of interest, so I'm not keen to argue. I think my original post holds though. I don't see anything implying that the state (or anyone other than voluntary donors) should be supporting anyone else.
I've seen lots of "Jesus was a socialist" posts, but it seems to me he would have been more of a free-range Agorist. I don't see much scriptural support for statism.

He wasn't a socialist as evidenced by the parable of the workers in the vineyard. That's wage labor, and he wasn't condemning it but even affirmed that the employer could offer whatever wage he wanted to offer.
