Maybe "regular Joe" would be ok with typeclasses. It seems to me they are a far better abstraction than non-infamous systems like OOP.

I agree that names for typeclasses are often problematic, but if that’s the case, rename them? It can have monads w/out calling them monads.

That would make it harder to learn because it would be the same material without the benefit of several decades of indexed papers.
