I've soldered yards & yards in my time. Biggest tip I got was to alway exhale while applying flux to blow away the gas/smoke buildup.

Thank you ! That's a great old video. In the 80's I worked with NASA certified wiremen and learned another key point - neat clean solder joints use less solder and reduce weight. Sometimes more than a hundred pounds per spacecraft!

I've been soldering for close to 50 years, and I never thought to check my joints under a microscope. At least, I've always used rosin and heat sinks. I've never even heard of calibrated wire strippers, but I sometimes use the next larger gauge hole, and twist off the insulation.
