. our members are asking you to define "home" because 92K New Yorkers are homeless and you are demanding they #StayHome during #COVID19. You say: #PublicHealth before the #economy. Whose #health?

Why we yell and scream “HOUSING SAVES LIVES” @NYGovCuomo & @NYCMayor’s policing of poor people and failure to deal with the homelessness crisis is the backdrop to this public health crisis. Act now, center the most vulnerable, or more will die. #HomelessCantStayHome twitter.com/NYDailyNews/st…

Says something about this week that a 15-hour opera that ends with a cataclysmic cleansing fire is a welcome distraction

Convince your state and local leaders that helping people keep their homes and not become homeless is an excellent use of this money. The scale is there

The bipartisan Senate #StimulusPackage contains a $150 billion #Coronavirus Relief Fund, which state, tribal, & local governments can use this year to meet costs connected to #COVID19. How much does your state get? We got the numbers. cbpp.org/research/how-m

Great thread on poor use of research to inform policy by UK Nudge Unit. Reminds me of weak research used to justify US welfare reform in the 1990s, when a lot of people really wanted to believe that "just get recipients *any* job" was the answer. 99percentinvisible.org/episode/magic-

The goal of this intervention is to increase "off-flow". Basically to try to get people to stop claiming jobseekers benefit as quickly as possible. (Note: they are not measuring transitions into work, just when people stop claiming the benefit...)

Some CDBG can be used for that, so can $150B grants for states/localities. Expanded UI meant to help others. More is needed.

Another reason American federalism is bad is that it gives big responsibility to governments that lack the tools of monetary policy
