In a lot of ways, the left talks about mutual aid mirrors the way the right talk about charity. They're not actually viable replacements for the state-provided services many people need.

I don't think a lot of people realize how much support some disabled people need to survive, let alone function.

The point is to BECOME a viable replacement, it's one of the methods of revolution. State services will never be a viable replacement for mutual aid either, especially since the state is run by the wealthy. Charity is part of the non-profit industrial complex and is top down.

If I never hear "don't vote for the Democrat who isn't perfect, Organize and Build a Mutual Aid Network in Your Community" again... well, I'll assume I've died and gone to heaven, because everyone says it, it's bullsht, and I'm so tired of it

And I don’t want any more of my friends to die from lack of adequate access to healthcare. Mutual aid isn’t a replacement for medical infrastructure and civil rights enforcement. We need to win elections.

I get $239 a week for unemployment currently and have given half of it, the last two weeks, to a person I know who isn't eligible for unemployment. I would argue that you are incorrect and i think he would, too.

That’s not anywhere close to what it costs to keep a lot of disabled people alive.

Yup I'm so furious that we have to spend countless hours organizing middle and working class people to share our tenuous resources rather than taking the massive wealth that the rich are hoarding

THANK YOU. Mutual aid is excellent, but for some things because of either economy of scale or the sheer amount of commitment of time/training/money, we absolutely need the state to ensure that the thing meets at least the basic standard... At which point, they can provide it.
