I feel like everything I would need a coworker to know about JavaScript could be mentored, assuming they already knew a language or three. The DOM API and all the browser quirks are the "hard part" and that only comes with YEARS of practice.

Though, props to browsers, and all the people working on web platform testing, those quirks are less and less "gotcha conditions in this ONE browser you can't run on your mac"
