There is something inside of me trying to process the parade of resumes I'm seeing that say someone is a "JavaScript Engineer"

To clarify: your qualms are not about the term "JavaScript Engineer", but about the pattern you see emerging across those applicants who call themselves that?

Correct.

I call myself a javascript developer - but I can write perfectly fine and dandy c# if that's what you need, as well.

Yes! Can you imagine an iOS app developer calling themselves a "Swift Engineer"?

This is more of a personal observation. There is considerable frontend development with TypeScript, and CoffeeScript. These said engineers may also write CSS using Less or SCSS. Calling themselves a JS engineer might not accurately describe their day to day responsibilities.

I think this is an industry problem with advertised new roles asking for JavaScript focussed people. I’ve seen lots of native language folks moving onto the web to help build apps for companies, they do fine with TS/JS but struggle with CSS and semantic HTML.
