To be honest, I like the change... It is a lot less invasive than the old prompt

@grigs Yes, that's the plan. (There will still be a tiny engagement requirement, just a few taps to stop spam.) Both Android and Desktop will stop auto-prompting, and sites will be able to show the prompt at will (on user gesture).1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

I’m sorry. I’m unclear on which question you’re responding yes to. Are you saying that PWA A2HS banners will require authors to request permission? Or are you saying native app install banners will require authors to request permission? Or are you saying yes to both?

I think it might be yes to both. But I want to be 100% certain before I misinterpret it and spread bad info.

I'm not quite certain on native app install banners. Definitely to PWA A2HS banners. Maybe to native.

Hmm… well I hope that native apps are treated the same way here. They exhibit the same spammy behavior. It would also be nice to see an update to https://infrequently.org/2016/06/pwa-discovery-you-aint-seen-nothin-yet/ … with today’s perspective on PWAs. ;)

@mgiuca and I need to sync. I had thought that if you did nothing with onbeforeinstallprompt, you'd still get auto-prompting.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Perhaps a misunderstanding: on Android, you will now see a small infobar at the bottom automatically to install. But you won't get the modal prompt unless the site asks for it.

Ah, yes, right. Ambient badging FTW

Is this what you mean by ambient badging? That smaller banner at the bottom?https://twitter.com/kennethrohde/status/984472911674298369 …

I've just been updating airhorner to handle some of the changes. also there is no an appinstalled event that fires when user manually adds to homescreen https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/airhorn/blob/master/app/scripts/main.min.js#L123 …
