I'm worried the web also allows and relies on a lot of privacy-compromising practices, eg social network Like/Share buttons, third-party JS, non-sandboxed ads. Is there a genuine push to prevent those?

Web has a lot to answer for here. Thankfully, modifying web content for the benefit of users (extensions, browser choice) is effective. Closed store binaries, not so much.

Based on the iOS apps I've looked at… the first thing they do is check-in with one of the analytics providers (I should look at packet captures to see what they're actually sending)
