Attending a meeting is highly accessible for TC39. BUT: Unless you have Membership: * You cannot vote for or against anything in the process. This thread is informative but sugarcoats what people want to know. Here is how you become a member https://www.ecma-international.org/memento/join.htm …https://twitter.com/kosamari/status/971826099868102657 …

Another way to attend the meeting is to be a guest invited by ECMA member company. In 4 meetings I've been, I've seen academic researchers, small business building JS engine, Babel contributors, and npm contributors attend to share their insights.

Sean, I recommend observing TC39 decision making, via sitting and listening to meetings, via reading notes, or by talking to other members. You have access to all of that. I am very proud to be a user of a language that is in practice not specked based on who paid for a vote.

My point wasn't that it's a paid vote. It's that people want to know how to have a vote. Who aren't privileged like we but represent open source. How does @left_pad get a real vote now that he's freelance. And for some reason (intentional or not) you left that out of thread

Sean, I’m the person responsible for how Google engages at W3C and ECMA. Needless to say, this is a complex topic best addressed in any format *but* Twitter. Happy to discuss tomorrow if you have time.

If that's the case why is the process then being discussed at all? And of course I'm always open to engagement. I'm just seeing an (intentional or not) pattern in the dialogue. I also see the same questions not answered in a lot of contexts which is why I've raised this thread.

I know the stipulations IE: that if someone is on both non profit and for profit, their for profit must be their rep for licensing (paraphrasing so don't snipe), legal, and pay travel reasons.

US law and custom create very few sanctioned opportunities for competitors to collaborate on product plans. SDOs exist the way they do as a result.

Thanks for the rec. I'm sure we have it somewhere. FWIW. Im not trying to infer that TC39 doesn't take into consideration dev concerns etc. If thats what people are taking this thread as, then I will own it. But I think I've made my point clear no?

You have, but many (including me) are saying you're missing that formality is not practice. Happy to discuss tomorrow if you can make time.
