I'm looking for a beefier mobile workstation since I'm doing more native code lately. This beast looks fast enough and is somewhat portable. https://store.asus.com/us/item/201711AM170000001?_ga=2.74190299.894142179.1518636668-1111065340.1518636668 … I'm also considering http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/2-in-1-laptops/inspiron-17-7000-2-in-1/spd/inspiron-17-7773-2-in-1-laptop …, but worry it will be slow. Ideas?
NVME + decent FS should be ok. Ramdisk for compile output matters when toolchain isn't in the way (e.g., ninja for builds, gold as linker)

Can you use ninja and gold for kernel? I assume I was just using normal make + gcc. The bigger issue is atom editor is crazy inefficient, in some ways vim is faster and I've switched to that for now.

Sounds like you want faster cores to retire work faster. I'd pick whatever gets you bigger caches and wider memory busses for the $$$

Are you building in an environment where distcc (etc.) can help?
-
Sometimes, but I often work on the road or otherwise don't have network access. Also I do a lot of cross-compile kernels and worry distcc would be a pain to setup for that.
