"product thinking" is somewhat over-stating it. The really core value of Slack over IRC is that it ... um ... works reliably.

This is the key difference: software perspective sees "works reliably" as a systems issue whereas "product thinking" sees a core experience differentiator. Guess which one is more valuable?

I wish slack didn't take like 4 seconds to load tabs, though. That feels like something product thinking should have addressed

And yet I dislike using Slack in general, despite being able to name many good things about it. Using it always gives me a claustrophobic feeling for some reason I can't pinpoint.
