After hearing from a friend who worked there how Qualcomm does development, this is 100% unsurprising. A single bugfix requires 40+ commits to various one-off builds of Android per-vendor, it's completely unscalable.

Cortex A53 is five years old. That the main market chip hasn't advanced in 5+ years is bonkers.

It's not (just) the core design! They keep adding more and clocking them up (process & thermals allowing) but they *keep* cache-starving them.
