@slightlylate good morning, and quick q?: pretty sure I watched you mention that the avg phone was mid to low tier android phone. Do you recall the talk? (Polymer? i/o?) Or did you have a doc you referenced? Thx!

You can work this out from sales volumes + average-selling-price. I referenced some of those sources here: https://infrequently.org/2017/10/can-you-afford-it-real-world-web-performance-budgets/ …

Recall that Apple has a monopoly on the *actually* fast chips. Nobody else gets anywhere close in terms of perf. That + ASP (and projected ASPs) nets you a curve that's pretty interesting.

E.g., I expect that smartphone performace gap between the rich and everyone else will continue to widen for the next few years.

ASPs will rise, but if you look at things like the Jio Phone (which will dominate volume), it's going to be a fascinating ride: https://gadgets.ndtv.com/jio-phone-4255

By 2019, I expect the ~$100 phone to be pretty darned good in most ways -- just not CPU perf -- Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek have totally, utterly failed to keep the pipelines full on the cores they churn out at record pace.
