Interviewing a candidate is not an opportunity for you to demonstrate how smart you are. When you do this you show how insecure you are and how dysfunctional the organization that allows you to do this is.

Yup, I tend to ask questions about people's experience and see where it goes. I usually ask them to consider things they likely hadn't considered before and see how they re-contextualize their own experience and learn from it.
