Light DOM and element upgrades. You don't have to wait for JS to run to boot up, but when it does you can enhance the experience.

You can add scheduling to delay heavy element upgrade work while styling element skeletons, all scheduled by the parser.

But those are technical reasons. It's the community/non-technical reasons that matter most, IMO.
